Carol E. (Nichols) McAvoy

November 10, 1930 ~ January 31, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old


            Mrs. Carol E. (Nichols) McAvoy, 85, wife of the late Atty. William F. McAvoy, passed away after a brief illness at her home at Southgate in Shrewsbury MA. She was a long-time resident of Milford, and actively involved in the community for many years, particularly in the local library as both a library trustee and on the executive board of the Friends of the Milford Town Library.

 

            She was born to Carrie and Orlo Nichols in Utica NY; grew up in Otego NY and graduated with a degree in library sciences from Syracuse University in 1955. A few years later, she moved to Springfield Massachusetts, and then to Worcester. While working for State Mutual Insurance, she met and married William F. McAvoy of Milford in 1965, and lived in Milford until moving to Shrewsbury a few years ago.

 

            Carol is survived by her daughter, Susan McAvoy of Milford MA; two sons, William McAvoy of Des Plaines IL, and Thomas Evan McAvoy of Portland OR; one granddaughter: May McAvoy of Des Plaines IL. She is also survived by a sister, Joyce Hoven of Sarasota Springs NY; a brother: Orlo Nichols of Baltimore MD; and several nieces and nephews.

 

            In accordance with her wishes a Private Graveside Committal Service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford. Visiting hours will be Wednesday (February 3rd) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday (February 4th) at 10:30AM in the chapel of Southgate at Shrewsbury, 30 Julio Drive, Shrewsbury MA.
