Donald P. Carroll, Sr., 83, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Countryside Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Fitzpatrick) Carroll.
Born in Millis, he was the son of the late James and Dorothy (McCarthy) Carroll. He was raised and educated in Milford and was a 1952 graduate of Milford High School. He also graduated from Burdett College.
Donald was employed as the Chief Accountant for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Youth Services retiring in 1994.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He was a baseball and basketball coach for St. Mary’s High School, winning several championships. He was on the Board of Directors for Milford Legion Baseball Club, was a Town Meeting Member, a member of the Community Use Program, and a basketball referee. He enjoyed his grandchildren and being with his family, trips to Ireland, Ogunquit, ME and Foxwoods. He also loved gardening and golf.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Mary R. Desilets of Framingham, Laurie A. Lynch and her husband, Chris, of Milford, Donald P. Carroll, Jr., and his wife, Jacqui, of Marlborough and John M. Carroll of North Carolina; two brothers, Daniel Carroll of Ireland and Timothy Carroll of Truro and seven grandchildren, Ryan Desilets, Brandon Carroll, Jillian and Griffin Lynch and Kyle, Maggie and Abigail Carroll.
His funeral will be held on Monday, April 23, at 9:00 A.M. from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress St., Milford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter St., Milford. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, April 22, from 2 to 5 P.M. at the funeral home.
