Janet Marie (Dalrymple) Tosches

Janet M. Tosches, a longtime nurse at the former Milford Hospital and also in the Hopedale Public School system, died at her home on July 22, 2017. She was 93.

 

She was the wife of the late Nicholas J. Tosches, editor of the Milford Daily News for many years, who died in 2014.

 

Mrs. Tosches was born in Milford, the daughter of R. Lee Dalrymple and Marie E. (Gahagan) Dalrymple. She lived most of her life in Hopedale. She was a 1941 graduate of Milford High School and graduated from Milford Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She began work as a registered nurse at the hospital soon after. She was the nurse for the Hopedale schools from 1973 to 1985.

 

In 1947 she met her husband-to-be in Milford Hospital, where he had been admitted as a patient with severe burns on his legs. They were married in 1948.

 

They traveled extensively, including trips to Ireland, France, Switzerland and Italy. In 1993, she and her husband drove from their home in Hopedale to Alaska, a five-week journey. She enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, gardening. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary.

 

Mrs. Tosches leaves three children, Linda M. Tosches and her husband, Phil Schlageter, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Paul J. Tosches and his wife, LuAnn, of Hopedale, and Richard M. Tosches and his wife, Susie Burghart, of Colorado  Springs, Colo. She also leaves grandchildren, Julie Haley and her husband, Kevin, of Mendon; Mark Tosches and his wife Alison, of Foxboro; Jonathan Tosches and his wife Katie of Washington DC; Maggie Lowman and her husband, Morgan, of Baltimore; Nick Tosches and John Tosches, both of Denver, Colo. She also leaves five great-grandchildren.

 

A sister, Mary Lee Speroni of Hopedale, died in 2007. She leaves another sister, Patricia Weatherhead, of Maine.

 

Her funeral will be held Thursday (July 27th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale St., Hopedale MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Thursday morning (July 27th) from 8:30am to 9:30am, prior to her Funeral Mass.
