Joan Marie (Huntley) Manganello

Mrs. Joan M. (Huntley) Manganello, 82, formerly of Walpole MA and Dedham MA died Monday (August 10, 2015) at Cornerstone at Milford after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Frank J. Manganello, with whom she recently celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Manganello was born in Brookline MA, the daughter of the late George Huntley and the late Grace (Conkey) Huntley Lassiter. She attended Boston public schools, graduating from high school.

She was the devoted mother to Janice Steffens, Gayle Ellis and Karen Gessin and to their husbands Rob Steffens, Mark Ellis and Scott Gessin. She doted on and loved dearly her four grandchildren: Kurt Steffens, Eric Steffens, Paul Steffens and Samantha Ellis. She was the ultimate grandmother to her children’s pets: Malcolm, Phoenix, Marley and Dixie who never went without treats when she was near. She was also the devoted sister of Sandra Childs of FL and of the late Vera Cannata and the late Thomas Lassiter.

Joan and Frank met at Sears & Roebuck in Boston in 1950. Joan was a dedicated employee. She worked at Sears for many years and eventually went to work at BankBoston where she was able to schedule a night shift job so that she could devote her days to raising her children. In retirement, she and Frank enjoyed numerous cruises and occasional trips to the casino.  

Joan was a friend to all. She will be dearly missed. In her final days, the staff at Cornerstone of Milford and Salmon Hospice were extremely caring and loving.

Her funeral will be held Thursday (August 13th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village Street, Medway MA. In accordance with her wishes cremation will follow and private graveside committal services will be held at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be  Wednesday (August 12th) from 5pm to 8pm.
