Mr. Joseph A. Batista, 67, of Milford MA, died Sunday (August 23, 2015) at Genesis Healthcare of Milford after an illness.

 

Mr. Batista was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Anibal and the late Mary (Sousa) Batista. He was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School, Class of 1965. He also attended Worcester Junior College.

 

 Mr. Batista was a resident of Milford MA for most of his life. He was an accomplished stone mason and had owned and operated Batista Construction Company for many years after apprenticing as a mason with Dominic Ferigno. He had also owned and operated Joe Bat’s Bar & Grille, the Up In Smoke Cigar Shop and Fat Boy’s Bar & Grille.

 

Mr. Batista was a longtime member of the Portuguese Club of Milford and had been named Mayor of Prospect Heights in 2006. He was also a member of the Sportsman’s Club and the Dramatic Club. He also had volunteered his time as a Milford Little League coach. He was also an avid member of The 3 Stooges Fan Club.

 

Mr. Batista is survived by his 5 Children: Lori Batista McEwen and her husband Brian of East Greenwich RI, Andrea Batista Garraway and her husband Gaylord of Bedford MA, Joseph Robert Batista of Milford MA, Theresa Maria Batista of Milford MA and Marissa Stephanie Batista of Milford MA; his Grandchildren: Michael & Tiernan McEwen of East Greenwich RI, Joshua & Jonathan Garraway of Bedford MA; 1 Brother: Stephen Batista and his wife Ellen of Greenville SC; his former wives: Suzie Batista of Milford MA & Elaine Tiernan Ficco of Wickford RI; several nieces & nephews including Duane Batista of Salem MA and Nicole Goodell of Greenville SC; also many cousins and extended family.

 

His funeral will be held Friday (August 28th)  at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow and a private committal service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be Thursday (August 27th) from 5pm to 8pm.
