Mrs. Lucille B. “Lou” (Barrett) Grant, 78, of Northbridge MA and formerly of Upton MA, Whitinsville MA and Milford MA, died Wednesday (June 10, 2015) at Beaumont Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Northbridge MA after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert A. Grant, who died in 1996.
Mrs. Grant was born in Melrose MA, the daughter of the late Kenneth and the late Clara (Looke) Barrett. She attended Melrose public schools, graduating from Melrose High School, Class of 1954. She was also a graduate of Wheelock College in Boston MA, Class of 1958.
Mrs. Grant was first employed as an elementary school teacher in Reading MA. She also taught overseas for a period of time and then returned to Melrose MA, Burlington MA and West Newbury MA to teach. Later in life she was employed as a personal care provider for the elderly working at Primary Home Care in Milford since 1992 until her retirement.
Mrs. Grant was a longtime member of the Unitarian Parish of Hopedale and enjoyed singing at church during Sunday services.. She was also an avid traveler, visiting friends in Anchorage Alaska and other locations. She was also an avid quilt maker and loved to knit. She also loved to participate in the annual church fair; loved gardening and flowers; loved photography; and loved to walk in the woods and around Hopedale pond.
Mrs. Grant is survived by her 2 Sons: David S. Smith of Manchester NH and Scott B. Smith of Chantilly VA; 2 Grandchildren: Adriana T. Smith and Ian H. Smith of Manchester NH; also many dear friends.
In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Saturday (July 18th) at 10:30AM at the Hopedale Unitarian Parish, 65 Hopedale Street, Hopedale MA 01747. There are no funeral home visiting hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Unitarian Parish of Hopedale, 65 Hopedale street, Hopedale MA 01747.
