Mrs. Mary V. (Gallagher) Norton, 89, of Hopedale MA, died Wednesday (June 17, 2015) at Medway Country Manor Nursing Home in Medway MA after a period of declining health. For fifty-two years she was the beloved wife of Bernard Norton, who died in 1998.
Mary was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late John H. and the late Marion A. (Dalrymple) Gallagher. For a number of years Mary was employed by the former New England Telephone Company. She also worked as a switchboard operator at Milford Hospital. Mary and Bernie lived in Hopedale MA all of their married life.
Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at the Milford and Hopedale Public Libraries. She enjoyed playing golf at Hopedale Country Club where she was a member of the Women’s League. In addition, she enjoyed playing golf with her husband Bernie and many other couples.
Mary is survived by her son Gregory and his wife Kathleen of Marlboro MA and her daughter-in-law Heidi Norton of Dover MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren David Norton of Marlboro MA, Matthew Norton and his wife Agata of Dover MA; Jenna Robinson and her husband Ryan of North Carolina; her brother in law, Gordon L. Norton and his wife Fran of Centerville MA and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Bernard Norton of Hopedale MA, her son Michael Norton of Dover MA, her sister Jean Neal of Hopedale MA and her brother John Gallagher of West Palm Beach FL.
Her funeral will be held Monday (June 22nd) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale MA. Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held Monday morning (June 22nd) from 8:30am to 9:30am, prior to her Funeral Mass.
