Richard Viens Lucier

October 10, 1933 ~ December 17, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Mr. Richard Viens Lucier, 83, of Mashpee MA and formerly of Milford MA, passed away in the loving arms of his son Van P. Lucier and Nancy Smith, whom he thought of as his daughter, on Saturday (December 17, 2016). He was the loving husband of Marie Grace (Ricci) Lucier, his childhood sweetheart, who became his bride February 7th 1953; they have been inseparable since the age 14 and 15 years of age.

Dick was born in Milford Hospital, the youngest son of the late Laura A. (Viens) and the late George Phillip Lucier. He was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1951. Dick worked for Stop & Shop Supermarket Company as a manager for 45 years, retiring in 1995.

Upon retiring, he and Marie decided to fulfill their dream of moving to Cape Cod, selling their beautiful home at 118 Purchase Street in Milford MA and moving to the Cape on October 10th (Dick’s Birthday), they excitedly moved into their custom built home in Mashpee MA, and lived very happily for the past 18 years, surrounded by wonderful neighbors who are more like family than neighbors.

Dick loved working in his yard and many gardens, cooking, and an afternoon beer or cocktail with the boys in his garage, and taking his convertible VW Bug for a ride down Rte 6A, up to the Cape Cod Canal or out to an estate or yard sale on a Saturday morning with Marie by his side.

Dick was a proud US Navy veteran serving our country for 4 years during the Korean Conflict on the USS Randolph CVA-15 aircraft carrier as a hospitalman.

Dick was the youngest of the family and he was pre-deceased by Rita M. Lucier, Dorothy J. Thomson, Ella G. Lucier, Jeannette O. Allegrezza, Omer F. Lucier and Paul L. Lucier. He was also pre-deceased by his beloved daughter, Jean Marie Lucier on November 6, 1971. Also pre-deceased by his granddog “Caelob”.

Survivors include the love of his life, Marie G. Lucier; his son, Van P. Lucier; his son, Russell P. Lucier and his wife Donna M. (Zacchilli) Lucier; his Cape Cod family whom he loved as his own children, Phillip J. Macomber, Janice Macomber, Sheryl (Macomber) Mattivello and her husband Ralph Mattivello and their son Anthony Joseph, who he considered to be his grandson and was affectionately called “Pepe” by Anthony, who was the apple of “Pepe’s” eye. Also Gregory J. Mello and Paul R. Mello.

Some of Dick’s memorable afternoons were spent out in his garage with his neighborhood pals. Luigi Gilbert, Paul Stewart, Jim Ryan, Bill Cook, Gil Alexander, Donnie & Christian Hakala, who will sorely miss him. His extra special girl (Golden Retriever) “Brie” will miss her Papa dearly.

His funeral, with Military Honors, will be held Wednesday (December 21st), the winter solstice 1st day of winter (Dick’s favorite day) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1PM in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Visiting hours will be Wednesday morning (December 21st) from 11:30am to 12:30pm, prior to his Funeral Mass.

Interment with Military Honors will be in the North Purchase Cemetery in Milford MA where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved daughter, Jean Marie Lucier. “We will all meet again on that golden shore”, Forever Loved.
