Mr. Joseph B. Vitalini, 88, of Milford MA, died Wednesday morning (July 4, 2012) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Rita F. (Donnelly) Vitalini.

Mr. Vitalini was born in Milford, the son of the late Batista and the late Helen (Lang) Vitalini. He attended Milford public schools and was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1942. He was also a graduate of Dartmouth College, Class of 1946.

Mr. Vitalini was first employed as a young man as an engineer for about ten years at the Thompson-Litchner Engineering Company, during which time he served as head engineer for the construction of the Madrid-Barajas International Airport in Spain. Following that he became involved in the family business and was instrumental in the development of the Vita-Crete line of products, which he patented. He retired from the family business in 2008.

Mr. Vitalini was a lifelong resident of Milford and was a WW II US Navy veteran. He was a longtime member of the American Legion John W. Powers Post #59 in Milford.

Mr. Vitalini was longtime registered professional civil engineer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts . He was also a longtime member of the Milford Lions Club and a longtime member of the Town of Milford Finance Committee. He was also a former Director of the Milford National Bank & Trust Company and a member of the K of C and the former Holy Name Society of St. Mary’s Church.

Along with his beloved wife of 62 years, he is survived by 3 Children:  Beth Vitalini Jones of Merrimac MA, J. Thomas Vitalini and his wife Deborah of Mendon MA and William Vitalini and his wife Lisa, of Mendon MA; 7 Grandchildren: Brendan Jones, Jonathan Jones, Mary Kate Feit, Katelyn Vitalini, Franklyn Vitalini, Benjamin Vitalini and Laura Vitalini; 5 Great Grandchildren: Donovan Jones, Emmy Jones, Quin Jones, Melody Jones and Alana Jones; also several nieces and nephews.

His funeral, with Military Honors, will be held Saturday (July 7th) at 9:30AM from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Milford MA. Visiting Hours will be held Friday (July 6th) from 5pm to 8pm.    

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
