Clarence Morin Obituary

Mr. Clarence G. Morin, 98, of Milford MA passed away peacefully on  Saturday morning (April 13, 2024) at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine L. (Coffey) Morin who died in 2020. He would have been 99 years old this coming June.

Clarence was born in Milford MA, the son of the late George D. Morin and the late Alice (Remey) Morin. He was a lifelong Milford resident and a parishioner at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He spent the winter months, with his loving wife prior to her death, at their home in St. Petersburg FL.

Clarence graduated from the former St. Mary’s High School in 1943 and later from the Progressive School of Photography in New Haven CT. He was a proud member of the US Navy, serving as a second class signalman in WW II. He was the recipient of the American, Asiatic-Pacific, and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaigns Medals , as well as two Bronze Stars.

Following in his father’s footsteps, after his time of service in the US Navy, he took over the operation of Morin’s Studio and Camera Shop, located in Milford MA, in 1947, along with his late brother Raymond Morin. In the early 1970’s, Clarence’s children, Tom & Susan joined the business.  In 1999, Chris Morin, Tom’s son became the 4th generation to join the business.  Morin’s Studio celebrated their 100th Anniversary in 2022.  Clarence remained active in the business doing many things to keep the business on track from home at his kitchen table.

He was also the founder and owner of the Midtown Racquetball Club which was located in the Milford Opera Building, and he was co-owner of the Fore Court Tennis & Racquetball Clubs in Bellingham MA and Cumberland RI. He was also a trustee of the former Milford Savings Bank.

Clarence will be remembered by all who knew him for his warm heart and generosity. He was an old school businessman who believed in treating all people with a sense of fairness.  Doing the right thing was always a priority to him.  His adult grandchildren often sought out his advice and always respected his opinion. His great grandchildren visited him frequently and showered him with love, calling him their “Big Grampy”.  He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, and unending dedication to his family, particularly to “his bride” of 72 years, Catherine, who passed away in 2020.

Clarence is survived by his three daughters: Susan Schoenberg of Milford MA, Barbara Savage and her husband Stephen Savage of Milford MA and Nancy Morin of Milford MA. He was predeceased by his sons: Thomas R. Morin and Gary Morin and his son-in-law: Kenneth Schoenberg.
