The Edwards Memorial Funeral Home is a third generation family owned funeral home that has proudly served families in the greater Milford area since 1882.

The family owned funeral business was started by James B. Edwards and his cousin Michael W. Edwards, in conjunction with their livery and stable business that served the Milford area. In those early years, the “undertaker” performed his services for the families directly from the family residences since all funeral services and wakes were conducted from the family residences due to the fact that there were no formal funeral homes at the time. A “store front office” was maintained by the Edwards family on Main Street in downtown Milford.

With the death of Michael W. Edwards in 1904, James B. Edwards took sole responsibility for running the family funeral business and opened the first actual facility on Pearl Street in Milford in the late 1920’s.

James B. Edwards was joined in the family business in 1925 by his son, Joseph F. Edwards, who had recently graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Joseph F. Edwards returned home after graduation from college to assist his ailing father in running the family business. In 1930, upon the death of James B. Edwards, the family business was passed on to his son, Joseph F. Edwards, who continued the family tradition until his death in 1992.

In 1974, James D. Edwards, and in 1975, Joseph F. Edwards Jr, the sons of Joseph F. Edwards, joined their father in the family tradition of providing funeral services for families in the greater Milford area.

James D. Edwards, a licensed funeral director and embalmer, retired from the family owned business in February of 2014 and is no longer employed at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home. He is a 1968 graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts and a 1974 graduate of the New England Institute of Anatomy & Applied Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts and presently resides in Hopedale, Massachusetts.

Joseph F. Edwards Jr., a licensed funeral director and embalmer, is currently the sole owner of the family owned Edwards Memorial Funeral Home. He is a 1974 graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts and a 1975 graduate of the New England Institute of Anatomy & Applied Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts and presently resides in Milford, Massachusetts.
