Egidio Rovedo Obituary

Mr. Egidio A. “Gene” Rovedo, 93, of Medway, MA, died Monday (May 27, 2019) at Milford Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. For 73 years he was the beloved husband of Rose M. (Galli) Rovedo.

He was born in Milford, MA, the son of the late John A. and Santina (Muin) Rovedo. He attended Milford public schools and Worcester Trade School nights while working full time to help support his family.

Due to severe hearing loss in one ear, Gene was unable to serve his country during WW II. His contribution to the war effort came in working diligently at Whitin Machine Works, Northboro, MA, where he was a valued employee, making parts for war planes.

The bulk of Gene’s professional career was spent as a tool and dye maker for United Shoe Machinery. There wasn’t an engine he couldn’t fix or a tool he couldn’t make. He spent ten years working at the Medway Jr.-Sr. High School as their Maintenance Technician, maintaining their boilers and fixing the many and varied things broken by rambunctious students whose creativity always amazed him. After a short “retirement,” Gene went back to work part time in the stock room at a plumbing supply house for a few years before deciding it was time to focus on his many hobbies and interests.

He loved to work on his house and in his yard. He was a master gardener. He could make anything, fix anything and grow anything. He loved to surprise his wife and daughter with freshly picked flowers lovingly grown, which he would always bestow with his sweet, gentle smile and a twinkle in his eyes. Gene thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his nieces, nephews and many friends, but most especially enjoyed time spent with his grandson. He always marveled at the wildlife visiting his property. He took great pride and pleasure in driving his car, which he did right up until the day he was admitted to the hospital.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff, case managers & CNAs at Milford Regional Medical Center for their kindness, care, and compassion towards Gene and all the family at this difficult time. Your thoughtfulness and professionalism meant the world to us.

In addition to his beloved wife Rose, Gene is survived by his daughter, Patrice Rovedo Green and his grandson, Dante Green, of Medway; his sister, Esther Pozzoli of Clearwater, FL, his sister-in-law, Betty Rovedo of Bellingham, his former son-in-law Don Green, several cherished nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his beloved siblings: Ada M. Diani who passed away on May 5th, James Rovedo, Lydia Biagetti, Mario Rovedo, and John W. Rovedo, Sr., and his nephews Francis J. Diani and John F. Rovedo.

His funeral will be held Saturday (June 1st) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford, MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford, MA. A visiting hour will be held Saturday (June 1st) from 9am to 10am, prior to his Funeral Mass.
