John Niro Obituary

Mr. John R. Niro, 83, of Milford MA, died Tuesday (May 2, 2018) at Blaire House of Milford after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol A. (DiAntonio) Niro, who died in 2014.

 

Mr. Niro was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Orazio and the late Vincenzella (Laterza) Niro. He attended the former St. Mary’s parochial schools and was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1953. He was also a graduate of Northeastern University, where he received a degree in finance.

 

Mr. Niro was a Korean Conflict veteran having served in the US Army. As a young man he was first employed at the Milford Police Department and also at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale MA. He then began his career in finance, working for many years at Greenleaf Financial Services in Milford, retiring in 2008.

 

Mr. Niro was a longtime member of the Italian-AmericanVeterans Post #40 of Milford and the Hoboken Citizens Club of Milford. He was also a member of the Milford Chamber of Commerce and had served on the Downtown Beautification Committee & the Finance Committe for the Town of Milford.

 

Mr. Niro was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors, loved to fish and play tennis, and had been a member of Hopedale Country Club. After a successful career as a member of the John W. Powers Post American Legion baseball team, he continued his support as a member of the American Legion Baseball Committee.                                            

 

Mr. Niro is survived by his 4 children: John F. Niro of Upton MA, Lisa M. Caruso of Milford MA, Atty. Francis A. Niro and his wife Suzanne of Mendon MA and Anthony J. Niro of Milford MA; 3 grandchildren: Gianna Caruso of Milford MA, Francesca Niro and Samuel Niro of Mendon MA; and several nieces & nephews.

 

He was the brother of the late Anthony Niro, the late Alba Grant, the late Joseph Niro, the late Carmella Kell and the late Rose M. Niro.

 

His funeral, with Military Honors, will be held Monday (May 7th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH),7 East Main Street, Milford MA. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow and private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family. 

 

VISITING HOURS WILL BE HELD      SUNDAY    (May 6th)    FROM     4PM    to    6PM    AT THE EDWARDS MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME,  44 CONGRESS STREET,  MILFORD MA.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham MA 02452.
