Joseph S. Leoncini

“Joe” Joseph S. Leoncini , 101, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Blair House of Milford after complications from pneumonia. 

Born in Mendon, MA, Joe graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Milford in 1935. He played both Baseball and Football for St. Mary’s and also played on the 1933 Milford Legion Baseball Team as a Third Baseman.  Joe married Anita Harback in November of 1939 and remained married until her death in April of 2007.  They were great dancing and later golfing partners.

Joe honorably served in the U.S. Army, 2nd Armored Division, “Hell On Wheels.”  He was in the 66th Regiment Light Tank Corp. and saw extensive combat action.  He was at the Invasion of Normandy, The Battle of Saint Lo, and the epic Battle of the Bulge as a Tank Commander.  His Unit was part of the Honor Guard at the Pottsdam Treaty. 

After the war, he returned to work at the Draper Corp. where he worked for 42 years until the plant was absorbed by Rockwell International.

Joe was an avid and proficient golfer.  He was a Founding Member of the Hopedale Country Club starting in 1953 and remaining active as a player until he was 97 years old; loving the game and all those he had the pleasure to golf with.

Joe leaves his daughter Susan G. Fitzpatrick from Albuquerque; his son Steven and his wife Renée Leoncini of South Grafton, grandchildren Joel and Danielle Fitzpatrick, and great grandchildren Fiona and Lily Fitzpatrick.  He also leaves many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the services for Joe being held at Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, MA on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at10:00AM.   Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held Saturday morning (August 11th) from 9am to 10am, prior to his Funeral Service.
