Louis Anthony Beccia

Mr. Louis A. Beccia, 88, of Mendon MA died Saturday (September 9, 2017) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Janet M. (Tellier) Becia.

 

Mr. Beccia was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Michele and the late Anna (DelSignore) Beccia. He attended the former Sacred Heart Grammar School and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1947. He was also a graduate of the former Worcester Junior College, Class of 1968.

 

Mr. Beccia was first employed as a young man at the former Draper Corporation located in Hopedale MA where he worked as a wood pattern maker and mechanical engineer. He later was employed as a mechanical engineer at Entwistle Company located in Hudson MA, from which he retired.

 

In 1947 Mr. Beccia enlisted in Company I, 181st Regiment and began his 32 year career serving in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt in 1951 and later served as a Company Commander. He held numerous staff positions at Battalion, 181st Regiment Headquarters in Worcester MA and also 2nd Brigade, 26th Division in Worcester MA. He was assigned to the 26th Infantry Division staff as division intelligence officer with a final assignment as intelligence officer at State Headquarters in Boston MA, until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel.

 

Mr. Beccia was a graduate of the Massachusetts Military Academy located in Boston MA in 1951. He was also a graduate of the Associate Company Officer Course at Ft. Benning GA in 1952 and attended the Company Officer Refresher Course at Ft. Benning GA in 1956. He was also a graduate of the Associate Advance Course at Ft. Benning GA in 1953 and a graduate of the Command & General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth KS in 1971.

 

Mr. Beccia was an avid hunter & fisherman who loved the outdoors. He also loved to read.

 

Along with his beloved wife of thirty-seven years, he is survived by his 5 Step-Children: Roberta, Gary, Stephen, John “Jack”, and Lisa; also 7 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother: Alfred Beccia and his wife Janice of Northbridge MA; 1 Sister: Mrs. Linda Pulsifer of Douglas MA; and several nieces & nephews.

 

Mr. Beccia was the step-father of the late Robert, and the brother of the late Nicholas J. Beccia.

 

In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. Private committal services, with Military Honors, will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
