Mrs. Mary E. (Keenan) McKinnon, 91, of Groton MA and formerly of Canton MA died Sunday (December 2, 2018) at her residence after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Phillip J. McKinnon.
Mrs. McKinnon was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late Owen P. and the late Mary E. (Gallagher) Keenan. She was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1946. She was also a graduate of the former Lowell Teachers College, Class of 1949 and later received her master’s degree in music from Bridgewater State College.
Mrs. McKinnon was first employed as a music director for various school systems throughout the Worcester County. She later served as music supervisor for the Newton MA public schools system.
While residing in the Milford area she had been a member of the Quinshipaug Ladies Club and while residing in
Huntsville AL she became a member of the Newcomer’s Women’s Club. She and her husband had also resided in Naples, FL.
Mrs. McKinnon’s love of music carried over into her love of opera and attending the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She loved to sing whenever possible.
Along with her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, she is survived by her 2 Daughters: MaryBeth McKinnon of Groton MA and Kathleen H. Hutton and her husband James Kowalsky of Plymouth MA; 1 Granddaughter: Helena W. Hutton of Plymouth MA; 1 Brother: Peter F. Keenan of Quincy MA; also several nieces & nephews. She was the sister of the late Owen P. Keenan Jr.
Her funeral will be held Friday (December 7th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Friday morning (December 7th) from 8:30am to 9:30am, prior to her Funeral Mass.
