Robert Gallerane Obituary

On January 27, Robert Caesar Gallerane passed peacefully at age 92. He was married for 69 ½ years to the love of his life, Pauline Manna Gallerane.

 

Robert, son of the late Alexander and Elvira (Bodio) Gallerane, was born in Milford, MA. He grew up on his family farm on Ferguson Street in the Plains neighborhood of Milford and graduated from Milford High School in 1943. Bob joined the Air Force in 1944, served in the Korean War and retired after 27 years of service. While in the Air Force he played baseball, hockey, and took up bowling which he continued to play until 2005. His last trip to the Professional Bowlers’ Associate National Tournament was in 2005. He later worked for the US Postal Service in Framingham for 18 years, retiring in 1991.

 

Throughout his military career Bob and Pauline lived in GA, Korea, Cape Cod, Burlington, VT, Poughkeepsie, New York, Taipei, Taiwan, Belleville, IL, Paris, France, Stuttgard, Germany, Belleview, NB, Milford, MA, and finally retired to Holliston, MA for the past 46 years. Bob and Pauline enjoyed traveling and throughout their marriage visited Italy, Nova Scotia, Austria, and Germany. While serving in Germany, they took the opportunity to visit Bob’s family in Bologna, Italy.

 

Bob was a member of the Medway VFW, the Plains Athletic Club in Milford, and later the Plains Association. After his retirement he worked for the Superette in Holliston, MA. He was a devout Catholic his entire life and for the past 46 years he was a faithful communicant at St. Mary’s in Holliston. Bob was always happy and smiling; the life of any party. He thoroughly enjoyed life, his garden, good food, cheering for Boston sports teams– Celtics, Patriots, Bruins, and his favorite, the Braves. Family was the center of his life.

 

He is survived by his three sons, Robert M. and his wife, Jenney of Milford; Alan of Holliston, Mark and his wife, Brenda of Barre MA; his three grandchildren, Anthony and his girlfriend, Emily of Milford, Katie Leone and her husband, Justin of Hopedale, Michael and his wife, Laura of Holliston; his four great grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Gallerane, and Dominic and Giuliana Leone. He also leaves behind his step grandchildren, Louis Pleau and Crystal Henshaw and step-great grandchildren, Tyler and Amber Gariepy, and Jasmine Pleau. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Nicholas Manna and his wife Grace, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia (Gallerani) McCallum.

 

His funeral, with Military Honors, will be held Thursday, February 1st from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Mary’s Church, 708 Washington Street, Holliston, MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Thursday morning, February 1st from 9am to 10am, prior to his Funeral Mass.
