Mr. Ronald J. Doherty, 65, of Uxbridge MA, died Thursday (May 24, 2018) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Martha E. (Reneau) Doherty.
Mr. Doherty was born in Boston MA, the son of the late Patrick and the late Mary (McLaughlin) Doherty. He attended St. Peter’s Grammar School in Dorchester MA and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston MA, Class of 1970. He also was a graduate of Boston State College,, Class of 1974.
Mr. Doherty was first employed as a physical education instructor at Keefe Technical High School in Framingham MA and then later at the Bethany Hill School also located in Framingham MA. He later was employed for 26 years for the Uxbridge School Department where he worked as head custodian. His last employment was as maintenance foreman at the Evergreen Center located in Milford MA.
Mr. Doherty had served as a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard for six years, his unit based in Dorchester MA. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the NE Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. But he was most passionate about serving as a coach for his daughters’ many sports teams over the years, including the production of numerous sports videos to assist his daughters in their recruitment process at school.
Along with his beloved wife of 39 years, he is survived by his 3 Daughters: Shannon P. Doherty of Uxbridge MA, Lauren M. Shewcov of Northbridge MA and Erin E. Doherty of Uxbridge MA; 4 Grandchildren: Kacey Lynne Doherty, Dylan Groehl, Ryan Groehl and Brayden Shewcov; his 5 Siblings: Patricia, wife of Mike Ramacker of Brockton MA, Eileen wife of Martin Kane of Milton MA, Charles Doherty and his wife Laura of Quincy MA, James Doherty of Dorchester MA and Marie, wife of Paul Roper of Franklin MA; several nieces & nephews; and 2 Brothers-in-law: Charles Reneau of Milford MA and George Martello and his wife Mary of Abington CT.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday (May 30th) at 10AM from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30AM in St. Mary’s Church, 77 Mendon Street (Rte 16), Uxbridge MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Uxbridge MA. Visiting hours will be Tuesday (May 29th) from 5pm to 8pm.
