William J. “Bill” Hazard, 91, died Monday, April 1, 2019 after a period of declining health.
Bill was an US Army veteran and a former employee of Draper Corporation in Hopedale. He was well known as the custodian at the Henry P. Clough Elementary School in Mendon, where he worked for more than 30 years. He also served as auxiliary police officer in the Mendon Police Department and was a member of the Mendon Yacht Club.
A lifelong Mendon resident, he was the son of Richard E. Hazard and Anne O’Donnell Hazard. He was one of 10 children and was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews, and many people outside the family felt the same way.
He is survived by his brother and caregiver, Kenneth Hazard of Hopedale; two sisters, Priscilla Guido, of Milford, and Shirley Hutchinson, of Whitinsville. He was also blessed by a lifelong friendship with the Quirk family, which began with a more than 70-year friendship with John Sr., and continued with sons Jimmy and Johnny after their father passed away. Bill and his family also appreciated the care & concern provided by Lee Pimental.
He was predeceased by his parents and five brothers: Richard, Donald, Robert, Lyman and Russell Hazard.
Funeral services will be private and are under the direction of the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford. There will be no calling hours.
