Mrs. Carmella B. (Arcudi) Fernandes, 99, of Milford MA died Friday morning (December 22, 2023) at Countryside Healthcare of Milford after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Hector L. Fernandes, who died in 1984.

Carmella was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late Guiseppe Arcudi and the late Maria (Vasile) Arcudi. She attended Milford public schools and went to work at a young age to help support her family.

Carmella was first employed at the former Goodwill Shoe Company located in Holliston MA. She then was employed for many years as a stitcher at the former Derman Shoe Company & at the former Porter Shoe Company, located in Milford MA. Lastly, she was employed at Fen-Wal Corporation located in Ashland MA.

Carmella was a lifelong resident of Milford MA and a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford MA. She was a devoted housewife & mother, and loved her pet dog "Pepper". She also loved attending the John W. Powers Post American Legion baseball games.

Carmella is survived by her daughter: Linda L. Karp and her husband Alan Karp of Milford MA; her 2 grandchildren: Jennifer L. Essig and her husband David Essig of South Boston MA and Brian A. Karp and his wife Nichole of Milford MA; her 5 grandchildren: Audrey L. Essig, William D. Essig, Wesley Karp, Emmett Karp & Adalyn Karp; her brother: Joseph E. Arcudi of Milford MA; also many nieces & nephews.

Carmella was the sister of the late Arthur Arcudi; the late John Arcudi; the late Antoinette Pilla; the late Anita Anderson; the late Dorothy Malisz; the late Theresa Bertone; the late Anne Leoncini; the late Josephine Brown; the late Rose Pearl and the late Samuel Arcudi.

Her funeral will be held Thursday (December 28th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday (December 27th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
