Obituary

Mrs. Doreen J. (Powers) Cote, 70, of Blackstone MA died Wednesday (August 20, 2025) at Blaire House of Worcester after a period of declining health.

Doreen was born in Woonsocket RI, the daughter of the late Edward T. Powers and the late Beatrice L. (Larose) Powers. She was a graduate of St. Claire High School in Woonsocket RI, Class of 1973.

Doreen was first employed as a young woman at Stepka Family Dentistry located in North Smithfield RI from 1977 to 1986. She then spent her years as a devoted housewife and mother, dedicated to raising her family from 1986 to 1997. After her children were older she was employed as a cafeteria worker for the Medway MA public schools from 1997 to 2003. From 2003 to 2020 she was employed as the cafeteria manager for the Mendon-Upton Regional School District.

Doreen was a longtime resident of Blackstone MA and had been a communicant & Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Church in Hopedale MA. Her interests included baking bread & quilting. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Doreen had been a Type 1 diabetic for over 40 years and with the help of the Joslin Diabetes Center she had been able to live a productive life.

Doreen is survived by her 2 children: Daniel Cote and his wife Christina of Uxbridge MA & Lauren Cote and her partner Jason Estey of Ashland MA; her 2 siblings: Dennis Powers of Sebastian FL & Gary Powers and his wife Sytuch of North Kingston RI; also several nieces & nephews.

Doreen was the sister of the late Kathleen Paquin of Uxbridge MA and the former wife of the late Roger L. Cote, who died in 2023.

In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on SATURDAY (September 6th) at 12 NOON in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale MA. Burial of her cremains will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery in Blackstone MA. There are no visiting hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
