Mrs. Dorothy P. (Scahill) Gately, 86, of Hopedale MA, died Tuesday evening (August 23, 2022) at Genesis-Milford Center after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of Robert F. Gately

Dorothy was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late James and the late Sarah (Norton) Scahill. She attended Hopedale public schools, graduating from Hopedale High School. She was also a graduate of the Worcester State Teacher's College.

Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Hopedale MA and had been employed as a second grade elementary school teacher for the Hopedale public school system for forty-one years. She was a former member of the Hopedale Teachers Association and the Massachusetts Teachers Association.

Dorothy loved spending time with her beloved family members, especially when it was babysitting her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews. She also loved babysitting their pet dogs.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Robert F. Gately of Hopedale MA; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.

Dorothy was the sister of the late John Scahill; the late Mary Challela; the late Nancy Power; the late Eileen Callery and the late Pauline D'Alesio.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday (August 29th) at 11am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held Monday (August 29th) from 10am to 11am, prior to her Funeral Services.
