Ms. Joan Sylvia Moss, 89, of Milford MA, and formerly of Hopedale, MA, died Thursday morning (May 22, 2025) at Countryside Healthcare of Milford after a period of declining health.

Joan was born in Bournemouth, England, the daughter of the late Stanley Moss and the late Ann (Bytheway) Moss. She attended public schools in England as a young girl, and later in life she became a certified Licensed Practical Nurse, graduating from a program at the former Waltham Hospital in Waltham MA.

Joan moved from England to the United States in the early 1950's to begin working as a "Nanny". She then worked as an assembler at the former Waltham Watch Factory. Following that she worked as a waitress at the former Candyland Restaurant located in Waltham, MA.

Joan then became a devoted housewife and mother, and took great joy in raising her family. After her children became older, she began her career as an LPN and worked as a pediatric nurse at the former Waltham Hospital. She then transitioned to working as a hospice nurse, which led to her passion for caring for individuals in the end stages of their life.

Though hospice care was where Joan felt most fulfilled, for the remainder of her professional career, she cared for the retired nuns at the Sisters of Charity located in Wellesley MA. For Joan, this too was a meaningful path.

Her Catholic faith was very important to Joan, and it radiated in everything she did in life. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church & Sacred Heart Church in Milford, MA, followed by her present day attendance at Sacred Heart Church in Hopedale, MA. Additionally, Joan was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis in Boston, MA for the duration of five years. In times when others turned to Joan for counsel, she would often share this simple insight with them, "If you are afraid to do something but you have to, you have to have more trust that God is with you more than your fear".

Having grown up near the ocean in England, Joan always had a great love for the beach. She loved listening to music and also became an avid Bingo player. But her favorite pastime of all was spending time with her beloved children & grandchildren. She was often seen sharing joy in the many moments that became cherished memories with her family.

Joan is survived by her daughter Teresa A. Ballan of Hopedale, MA; her son: James A. Caramsalidis Jr. of CT; her former daughter-in-law: Helen Lemon of Ware, MA; her former son-in-law: Gregory Ballan of Medway, MA; her 5 grandchildren: Thomas Ballan, Rachel Ballan and her fiance, Jason Williams, Christie Ballan, Christopher Caramsalidis and Kelley Cederlund and her husband Sean Cederland; also her 3 great grandchildren: Lily Cederland, River Cederlund & Skye Cederlund.

A Private Funeral will be held Monday (June 2nd) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford, MA. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday (June 2nd) at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale, MA. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Milford, MA. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
