Mr. Joel V. Liberto, 57, formerly of Milford MA died unexpectedly on Thursday (March 7, 2019) at his residence. He was the beloved son of Retired Milford Police Chief Vincent Liberto and Elizabeth (DePaolo) Liberto.
Joel was born in Framingham MA. He was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1979. He then attended the US Military Academy at West Point NY, where he was commissioned an officer in the US Army.
Joel served in the US Armor Division in Germany with the 3/34th Armor Battalion from 1983 to 1986, where he earned 2 Commendation Medals. Following that he remained on staff and as a faculty member of the US Armor School, until he resigned his commission in 1988, as a Captain.
Following his resignation from the US Army, Joel was employed as an Aerospace Engineer for Textron Lycoming. In 1991 he received his master's degree in Quality Engineering RPI and joined the Hitachi Corporation in 1993 as a Quality Manager. In 1996 he became the Operations Manager for Freudenberg NOK and was promoted to General Manager in 1998. In 2000 he became the VP for Operations for CHAMP Golf. He then joined Reed Rico as President in 2001, and then moved on to President & General Manager of Hudson Lock in 2003. Joel most recently worked for the Bilas Group. He spent over 30 years leading companies to greater performance, serving as a senior executive.
Joel was an avid sports fan and loved the outdoors. He loved to fish and also loved to cook. He was a longtime member of the Boy Scouts of America and was very proud of the fact that he was a Eagle Scout.
Along with his beloved parents: Vincent W. and Elizabeth A. (DePaolo) Liberto of Mashpee MA, he is survived by his sister: Susan, wife of James Bird of Millville MA; his niece: Sarah Bird and her husband Lucas Carbia of Brooklyn NY; his nephew: Connor Bird of Millbury MA; his fiancée: Deborah Spiro of Shrewsbury MA; also several aunts, uncles & cousins.
His funeral, with Military Honors, will be held Wednesday (March 13th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be Tuesday (March 12th) from 5pm to 8pm.
