Mr. Robert F. Gately, 79, of Hopedale MA died Thursday (April 23, 2026) at Beaumont Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Westborough MA after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy P. (Scahill) Gately who died in 2022.

Robert was born in Boston MA, the son of the late Frank Gately and the late Lillian (Guida) Gately. He attended public schools in Foxboro MA, graduating from Foxboro High School. He then attained his bachelor's degree.

After serving in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1969 he attained his MBA from Northeastern University.

Robert had been employed for many years as a civil engineer. As a resident of Hopedale MA he had served on the Town of Hopedale Planning Board.

He is survived by his brother: William Gately of Venice FL; also several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Friday (May 15th) at 11am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow, with Military Honors, in Hopedale Village Cemetery. A visiting hour will be held Friday (May 15th) from  10am to 11am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Service.
