Alfred Gerard Sr. Obituary

Mr. Alfred L. Gerard Sr., 95, of Milford MA died Thursday (September 12, 2024) at his residence after an illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Louise M. (Byron) Gerard, who died in 2021.

 

Alfred was born in Northbridge MA, the son of the late Lester Gerard and the late Elizabeth (Barry) Gerard. He attended Millis MA public schools, where he grew up.

 

Alfred had proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953.

 

Following his military service, Alfred began his long career working as a meat cutter for the Stop & Shop Supermarket chain for over 45 years, working at various locations. Later in life, he had been employed as a custodian working for the Milford public school system.

 

Alfred was always an advocate of physical fitness and had participated in weight training & lifting weights, as well as bicycle riding, even up to this past month. He was also an avid camper and loved taking trips to Florida with his late wife Louise. He was also a frequent customer at the former Crystal Spa & at the former Ray & Dick’s Bakery, both located in Milford MA. He had also attended the Solid Rock Bible Baptist Church in Blackstone MA these last few years.

 

Alfred’s family would like to specifically acknowledge & thank Karly Speroni for the compassionate care she afforded Alfred these past few years of his life.

 

Alfred is survived by his 3 sons: Alfred L. Gerard Jr. and his wife Janet of Sutton MA, Stephen P. Gerard and his wife Carol of Milford MA and David W. Gerard of Greenfield MA; his 8 grandchildren: Lauren Gerard and her husband Casey Duva, Colby Gerard and his fiancée Michelle Mercuri, Ashlee Gerard, Eric Gerard, David Gerard, Matthew Gerard and his wife Gabrielle Gerard, Ryan Gerard & Nicholas Gerard; his 5 great grandchildren: Marissa Zaki, Angelina Zaki, Samuel Zaki, Brandon Crawford & Parker Gerard; his great great grandchild: Evan Hesley-Harris; also several nieces & nephews.

 

Alfred was the brother of the late William Gerard.

 

In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Graveside Committal Service on WEDNESDAY (September 25th) at 12 NOON at Vernon Grove Cemetery, Vernon Street, Milford MA . There are no funeral home visiting hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Solid Rock Bible Baptist Church Renovation Fund, 214 Main Street, Blackstone MA 01504.
