Mr. Anthony “Tony” T. Batista, 68, of Portugal and formerly of Milford MA died unexpectedly on Tuesday (October 18, 2022) in Brazil while visiting relatives. He was the beloved husband of Solange Denti Batista.
Tony was born in Cervos Portugal, the son of the late Jose Batista Jr. and the late Sara (Teixeira) Batista. He attended the former St. Mary Grammar School and was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s Central Catholic High School, Class of 1972. He was also a graduate of UMASS-Amherst, Class of 1976 where he attained a degree in mechanical engineering & was a graduate of the Northeastern University School of Engineering where attained his Master's Degree.
Tony was first employed as a young man at the former Honeywell Corporation and then later at Setra Systems Corporation.
Tony had been a resident of Portugal for the past year and prior to that had grown up in Milford MA and resided in Canton MA, Stow MA & Ashby MA.
Tony was an avid sports fan. He also liked to “rehab” houses; working in his garden & also loved to make his own wine. He was also very proud of his Portuguese heritage and loved to trace his ancestry. But his favorite past time was spending time with his beloved family members.
Along with his beloved wife, he is survived by his children: Webster Batista-Lin and his wife Li of Winchendon MA & Annabelle Pratt and her husband Robert Pratt of Ashby MA; his grandchildren: Aenea Batista-Lin & Audrey Batista-Lin of Winchendon MA; his step-son: Marcus De Martin and his wife Lilia of West Boylston MA; his step-daughter: Livia De Martin of Hubbardston MA; his step-grandchildren: Micaela De Martin & Andrew De Martin of West Boylston MA and Julia Quintal of Hubbardston MA; also his 2 siblings: Terry Batista and his wife Donna of Franklin MA & Maria Calzolaio and her husband Mark Calzolaio of Milford MA; and several nieces & nephews. He is also survived by his former wife: Melody Farrell Batista of Ashby MA.
His funeral will be held MONDAY (November 7th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held on SUNDAY (November 6th) from 4PM to 7PM at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
