April Ann (Abusamra) Hawkins

Mrs. April A. (Abusamra) Hawkins, 75, of Milford MA died Thursday (April 10, 2025) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Barry B. Hawkins who died in 2023.

April was born in Worcester MA, the daughter of the late Alfred Abusamra and the late Beryl (Barnes) Abusamra. She attended public schools in Shrewsbury MA as a young girl, graduating from Shrewsbury High School, Class of 1968. She also attained her LPN certification from the former David Fanning Technical School  in Worcester MA.

April then began her successful career working as a LPN at the Milford Regional Hospital, now known as Milford Regional Medical Center, where she worked for about 45 years.

April loved her plants, and also loved to cook, but her favorite past time was tending to her beloved pet dogs.

April is survived by her daughter: Suzanne L. Carey of Milford MA; her 2 grandchildren: Samantha E. Cheschi of Milford MA and Nicholas L. “Nikko” Cheschi of Upton MA; her 2 siblings: Peter B. Abusamra and his wife Maryann of Spencer MA and Betsy A. Paulhus and her husband John Paulhus of Shrewsbury MA; her 2 nieces: Jaclyn Baynes of CA and Beth Gable of Shrewsbury MA; her nephew: Jonathan Paulhus of Shrewsbury MA; her 3 grandnieces: Emma Gable, Lydia Gable & Carter Gable; also her 2 longtime friends: Patti Altomare of Seabrook NH and Gail Walker of Westborough MA.

April was the mother of the late Dawn B. Hawkins who died in 2022; the aunt of the late Lance R. Abusamra and the mother-in-law of the late Todd M. Carey.

In accordance with her wishes cremation will take place. A Celebration of her Life will be held SATURDAY (May 3rd) from 11:00am to 12 NOON at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Funeral Service at 12 NOON. Burial of her cremains will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Milford MA.
