Mr. Benjamin R. Giacomelli, 73, of Sturbridge MA and formerly of Milford MA died Tuesday (September 12, 2023) at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge MA.


Ben was born in Framingham MA, the son of the late Benito R. Giacomelli and the late Celia (Lucciarini) Giacomelli. He attended Milford public schools, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1967.He then received his bachelors degree in business from Salem State College, Class of 1971. Ben furthered his education by attaining a Masters in Education from Framingham State College and a Masters in Business Administration from Bentley University.


Ben was a longtime teacher at Ashland High School, where he taught business, and had also served as the Ashland High School football coach. He was an avid sports fan in general, but especially of football. He had also served as a referee for USA Volleyball in both the high school & collegiate level.


Ben was also an avid reader and enjoyed attending the theatre & plays. He also loved playing golf, moderate exercise and spending time at the beaches on Cape Cod. But his favorite past time was being with his beloved family members & friends.


Ben had been a resident of Sturbridge MA for the past twenty years and prior to that had resided in Milford MA. He was also a proud member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard.


Ben is survived by his 2 children: Robert Benjamin Giacomelli of Charlton MA and Nicole Marie Giacomelli of Sturbridge MA; his 2 nieces & nephew: including Roberta L. Ciaramicoli of Hopedale MA and Suzanne Taylor of Hopedale MA; also many cousins. Ben is also survived by his friend Joan Navarro of Brimfield MA and his former wife: Gayle Gionet of Charlton MA.


Ben was the brother of the late Beverly Carnaroli.


In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his Life will be held on WEDNESDAY (October 4th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.


In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Division of Development, 10 Brookline Place West, Floor 6, Brookline MA 02445                        OR TO
