Bernard Hickey Jr. Obituary

Mr. Bernard A. Hickey Jr., 78, of Milford MA died Saturday (July 10, 2021) at Metro-West Medical Center in Framingham MA after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Rosanne M. (Pearl) Hickey.

 

Bernard was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Bernard A. and the late Elizabeth (Brigham) Hickey. He attended the former St. Mary’s parochial schools, graduating from the former St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1961. He then attended Worcester Polytech.

 

Bernard was first employed as a young man at the Milford Daily News and at the General Motors Assembly plant in Framingham MA.  Following his tour of duty in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam War from 1964 to 1967, he was employed as a “dynamiter” for the New England Power Company, working for over 20 years. He then worked for over 25 years at the former Foster –Forbes plant located in Milford. He later worked as a courier for the Milford National Bank & Trust Company and finally at the Hopedale Transfer Station.

 

Bernard was an accomplished baseball player in his youth, playing for the Milford Town Team and for the John W. Powers Post American Legion baseball team. He was an avid sports fan of all the New England teams. Bernard was also an accomplished ten pin bowler and an avid fisherman.

 

Bernard also volunteered for the Town of Milford at the voting polls and also enjoyed playing the Massachusetts Lottery and Keno, but his favorite past-time was spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.  

 

Bernard was also a longtime member of the Robert Frascotti VFW Post #1544 in Milford, where he had served as a past commander.

 

Along with his beloved wife of fifty-one years, he is survived by his two children: Keith M. Hickey and his wife Cara of Hoschton GA and Christine, wife of Robert Veneziano of Uxbridge MA; his three grandchildren: Cody Veneziano, Zachary Veneziano and Evelyn Hickey; his sister: Elizabeth Mack of Natick MA and many nieces & nephews.

 

Bernard was the brother of the late Robert Hickey, who died in 2018.

 

His funeral will be held Wednesday (July 14th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday (July 13th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
