Brian L. Harris Sr., 80, of Milford MA died unexpectedly on Wednesday (June 12, 2024) at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia A. (DeLeo) Harris, who died in 2021.
Brian was born in Milford MA, the son of the late John Harris and the late Frances (Fowler) Harris. He attended Milford public schools, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1962. He later attained his master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College.
Brian was first employed as a young man working at the former Tru-Built Truck Body Company located in Milford MA and at the former Rosenfeld Concrete Company located in Hopedale MA. In 1968 he began his successful career as a police officer, working for the Town of Milford and the Milford Police Department until his retirement in 2000.
Brian first served as a patrolman on the Milford Police Department and eventually attained the rank of Detective. Upon his retirement from the Milford Police Department he continued to serve the Milford community as a security guard at Milford Regional Medical Center, until his retirement from there in 2021.
While serving on the Milford Police Department he received specialized training in various aspects of policing. He was certified by the Massachusetts State Police in Photography & Fingerprinting; had been certified in Sexual Abuse of Children & Adults at the University of Delaware; had served on the Auto Theft Task Force & Drug Task Force; also trained in Elder Abuse.
As a Detective for the Milford Police Department he had been certified in Basic Arson Investigations and in investigations of serial homicides. He also was certified from Harvard University in Internal Affairs Investigations; and from the ATF in Glynco Georgia in Armed Criminal Investigations. He also served as a special agent for the International Intelligence & Organized Crime Investigator Association.
Brian is survived by his daughter: Sherry Bryant of Chepachet RI; his 2 sons: Brian L. Harris Jr. of Bellingham MA and Anthony J. Harris and his wife Julie of Uxbridge MA; his 2 step-sons: John Sammarco IV of Milford MA and Bryan Sammarco and his wife Tracy of Lebanon CT; his grandchildren: Anthony J. Harris Jr. and his wife Cayleigh, Mullaney Harris, Logan Harris, Hayden Bryant, Nicole Bryant, Cameron Sammarco and Calvin Sammarco; his great grandchildren: Riley Harris and Jackson Harris; also many nieces & nephews.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Relatives & friends are invited to extend their condolences to Brian’s family on THURSDAY (June 27th) from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Burial of his cremains will follow in Vernon Grove Cemetery in Milford MA. A Gathering of Family & Friends will be held at the Italian-American Veterans Post #40, Hayward Field, Milford MA immediately following his committal services.
