CarolAnn Louise (Burg) Thompson

CarolAnn Louise (Burg) Thompson, 81, of Rollinsford, NH and formerly of Milford, MA died Tuesday, September 3, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Francis Thompson, who passed away in 1996.

CarolAnn was born in Hartford, Connecticut, daughter of the late Edward J. Burg and the late Ann (Camilleri) Burg. She spent most of her childhood years in Wethersfield, CT. She graduated from the University of Connecticut, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in 1964 and a Ph.D. in Botany (Phycology) in 1969. After her marriage to Arthur they moved to Milford, MA where they raised their three children. More recently, she has been residing in Rollinsford, NH to be with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

Dr. CarolAnn Thompson taught in the Biology Departments at Wheaton College and Boston State College. After her children were grown she worked for many years for the Town of Milford’s Department of Planning, Engineering and Conservation.

CarolAnn was a daily Communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford MA where she served in various ministries: Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, member of the “Hands-to-Work” Knitting Group and “Food with Friends.” For many years she also helped decorate and clean the Church, and plant the gardens around the St. Joseph and St. Mary statues.

CarolAnn volunteered at Milford Regional Medical Center, earning her 2,000 hour pin in 2019. She also volunteered at the Milford Senior Center and was a season ticket holder at the Claflin Hill Symphony which holds concerts in Milford for many years. CarolAnn loved times spent with her family and friends, attending daily Mass, gardening, listening to classical music and “field trips” – especially museums and concerts.

CarolAnn is survived by her three sons: Dr. Christopher Thompson of Arlington, MA, Dr. Michael Thompson and his wife Ker of Rollinsford, NH and Kevin Thompson and his wife Meredith of Reading, MA; and daughter-in-law, Dr. Darby Schmidt of Arlington, MA; as well as ten grandchildren: Colby, Maureen, Quinn, Peter (Pio) and his spouse Fausto, Christopher, Michaela, Patricia, Grace, William, and Jonathan; also one sister-in-law, Jeanne Harvey of West Warwick, RI and one brother-in-law, Paul Thompson and his wife Cindy of Lawrenceville, GA, along with many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Monday, September 9, at 9:00 AM from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home 44 Congress St, Milford, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter St, Milford, MA. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, September 8th, from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
