Catherine Ahern Obituary

Mrs. Catherine A. (Liberto) Ahern, of Natick MA and formerly of Milford MA and Needham MA died Monday (November 25, 2024) at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham MA after an illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis X. “Frank” Ahern who died in 2023.  

 

Catherine was born in Milford MA, the daughter of the late Charles L. Liberto and the late Anne (Sainio) Liberto. She attended Milford public schools, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1952. She was also a graduate of the former Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing.

 

Catherine began her nursing career working at the former Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston MA. Following that she was employed as a registered nurse working at the VA Hospital in West Roxbury MA, where she worked for over 20 years, retiring in 2000.

 

Catherine was an avid reader, especially of world history. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the theatre and the arts. But her favorite past-time was spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

 

Catherine is survived by her 3 children: Francis X. Ahern Jr. and his wife Christina of Falmouth MA, David Ahern and his wife Diane of Hingham MA and Paul Ahern and his wife Pamela of Natick MA; her 7 grandchildren: Liam Ahern and his wife Bridgette, Molly Ahern, Colleen Ahern, Rian Ahern, Daniel Ahern, Matthew Ahern and Vivien Ahern; her great grandson: Owen Ahern; her brother: Charles Liberto and his wife Olga of Johnston RI; her sister-in-law: Carol Liberto of Whitinsville MA; also several nieces & nephews.

 

Catherine was the mother of the late Sean Ahern who died in 2021 and the sister of the late Milford Police Chief Vincent Liberto and the late Richard Liberto.

 

In accordance with her wishes a Private Funeral will be held Wednesday (December 4th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Private Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford MA. A Private Committal Service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA at the convenience of the family.

 

Relatives & friends are invited to extend their condolences to her family on Tuesday (December 3rd) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
