Catherine Scott Obituary

Mrs. Catherine O. (O’Keefe) Scott, 79, of Mendon MA died Monday (January 23, 2023) at her residence surrounded by her loving family members. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence S. Scott.

 

Catherine was born in Boston MA, the daughter of the late John O’Keefe and the late Madeline (King) O’Keefe. She attended public schools in Wayland MA, graduating from Wayland High School, Class of 1961. She was also a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1965. She later attended Boston University working towards her Master’s Degree.

 

Catherine was first employed as a young woman as a social worker for the City of Cambridge MA, working for the public housing authority. After her marriage to her beloved husband Lawrence, she became a lactation consultant for a non-profit organization in Newton MA and later became a writing consultant for all kinds of organizations. She was also an advocate for disadvantaged mothers & families. But her favorite vocation was that of being a devoted housewife & mother

 

Catherine had been an active member of the Mothers for Peace organization & the Mothers Against Nuclear Destruction organization. She was also active in various veterans organizations and in organizations associated with the 9/11  victims and their surviving family members. She was also very active in the various churches that she was a member of over the years, especially The Good Mennonite Church located in Needham MA.

 

Along with her beloved husband of 56 years, she is survived by her 5 children: Stefan A. Scott and his wife Skye of Wakefield MA, Jared E. Scott of Wayne PA, Caleb J. Scott and his wife Elizabeth of Miami Beach FL, Soren N. Scott of Brooklyn NY and Nerida E. Scott of Mendon MA & 10 grandchildren.

 

Catherine was the mother of the late Lucinda Rebecca Scott who died in 1989 and the sister of the late John O’Keefe.

 

In accordance with her wishes a Private Committal Service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Sherborn MA at the convenience of the family. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
