Claire L. Cummings

Claire L. Cummings, 94, of Milford, MA died peacefully on May 23, 2022, under the care of Blaire House of Milford.

Claire was born in Milford in 1927, the daughter of the late Agnes Ryan and Stanley Cummings. Claire attended St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1946 and was a graduate of Holy Cross Industrial Relations, in 1955. Employed at New England Telephone Company for approximately 40 years, she became Supervisor and a Chairman of Labor and Management Boards in her district. Claire also had several part-time jobs working for Newton-Wellesley Hospital, in fashion sales at Jordan Marsh and Casual Corner and docent for Wellesley College Davis Museum, to name a few.

She was a dedicated member of the Democratic Party where she attended conventions and events, campaigned for several candidates and ran for Milford town office. She was a member of Democratic Women On Wheels, the World Affairs Council of Boston and other committees.

As a lifelong resident of Milford, St. Mary of Assumption Church was very important to Claire. She served as a longtime communicant, as a member and treasurer of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Woman’s Club and dedicated much of her time to events and the many friends she made there. In 2016, Claire was honored with a mass and reception and awarded the St. Mary of Assumption Discipleship Award in recognition of many years of service.

In Claire’s free time, she would spend many hours at the town library. She loved Cape Cod and the seashore and drove her mother, Agnes there on many excursions. She spent many holidays with her sister and brother’s families in Andover and Fitchburg, and with her cousin, Maureen’s family in Milford. She loved a party and loved to sing and attended many Milford area events and activities and could be seen any several area restaurants on many evenings.

Claire is survived by family members: Donald Cummings, her brother, of Fitchburg, MA, his wife Bernadette; nieces and nephews: Chris & Tina Cummings of North Reading, Tracey & John Deshayes of Shrewsbury, Colleen & Steven Hirons of Westminster, Kelly & Mark Boudreau of Fitchburg, Ryan Cummings of NYC, Kathleen Borruso& Joyce Buckland of West Newbury, MA, Bridget Degesero of San Diego, CA, Roberta Borruso ofEast Hampstead, NH, Charles Borruso of Atkinson, NH,beloved cousin, Maureen O’Donnell and family, of Milford and cousin, Joseph Notturno of PA. She leaves nine grand nieces and grand nephews. Claire is predeceased by her sister, Margaret Borruso and husband, Charles Borruso.

Most importantly, Claire is survived by the Town of Milford and all the wonderful people who became her family. Special love to Marilyn Calzone, who became a caring daughter to Claire, visiting her frequently, bringing her coffee, milkshakes, donuts and the Daily News. Claire spoke often and fondly of Denise Roberts, Coleen & Steven Greco, Lorraine & Michael Calzone, Irene Rugoletti, the Brassards and Bordens, the VanAlstine sisters, Sally Ann Curley and Attorney Brian Murray and Judge Francis Larkin, to name just a few! Claire was grateful to have all of you! Claire is predeceased by her great friends, Florence Dugan and Betty Morse.

We are also thankful to the staff at Caffe Sorrento, where Claire frequented and enjoyed libations and many, many friends, Nelly’s Restaurant, Susana at Plaza Hair Salon, Milford Public Library, St. Mary of Assumption Church clergy, Rev. Peter Joyce, Catherine& Jerry Gosselin and all the church members and friends, and Blaire House of Milford staff, the Romano family, and Kim Bernia and the hospice team.

Her funeral will be held Friday (May 27th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 NOON in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Friday (May 27th) from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to her Funeral Mass.
