Mr. Craig T. “Digger” Whyte, 73, of Hopedale MA passed away comfortably at home surrounded by family on Thursday, May 12, 2022, after suffering an illness. He was the beloved husband of Ermelinda (Williams) Whyte.
Digger was born in Hopedale MA, the son of the late Vincent Whyte Sr. and the late Margaret M. (Blaco) Whyte and attended Hopedale public schools.
He began working at Hopedale’s Milford Products in 1964 and bought the business with his wife in 1980, changing the name to Milford Tire Products Inc.
A life-long horse enthusiast, Digger operated Whyte’s Pony Rides until the late 1970s, helping families and communities celebrate occasions throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Digger also provided hay to local horse owners through the family’s Tilting Rock Farm. He enjoyed riding, buying and trading horses throughout his life.
Digger was an incredibly hard-working man, provider for his family, and proud “Pops” to his grandsons.
Along with his devoted wife of 48 years, Digger is survived by his son Thomas Whyte and his wife Bethany Whyte of Hopedale MA; his daughter Sarah Caine and her husband Byron Caine of Bridgewater MA; three grandsons Jacob Whyte, Jared Whyte and Jaxen Whyte, all of Hopedale MA; brothers Ronald Whyte of New Hampshire and Wayne Whyte and his wife Deborah of Mendon MA; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Digger was the brother of the late Vincent Whyte Jr., who passed away in 2015 and is survived by his wife, Carol Whyte.
In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. We invite relatives & friends to attend his Celebration of Life at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA on THURSDAY (May 26th) from 5pm to 7pm.
