Mr. David Dixon Cosmo Maffia, 84, of Homosassa FL and formerly of Mendon MA, died Monday (May 11, 2026) at his residence in Homosassa FL. He was the beloved husband of Albertina Annette “Tina” (Courteau) Maffia.
David was born in Milford MA, the son of the late James Maffia and the late Marjorie (Chisholm) Maffia.
David served his country honorably and proudly in the US Navy for three years, attaining the rank of Storekeeper Third Class Petty Officer, serving aboard the USS Valley Forge (LPH-8) for 23 months.
David was a retired purchasing agent for both the former Milford Shoe Company and the Mercury International Shoe Company.
David had been a resident of Homosassa FL for the past 18 years and prior to that had resided in Milford MA and Mendon MA.
David was a sports car enthusiast, especially Corvettes. He enjoyed keeping his cars clean and polished and finding ways to improve their performance. He also loved to shop for any items that would beautify both the inside and the outside of his home.
David’s perfect day would revolve around spending time with his beloved wife of 57 years, Albertine “Tina” Maffia, who survives him. They both especially enjoyed their many trips to Disney World.
While residing in Florida David was a faithful and devoted parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Homosassa FL. Prior to that he had been a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford MA.
In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, he is survived by his brother-in-law: Felix Courteau and his wife Carol of Spencer MA; his sister-in-law: Suzanne West and her husband Richard of Whitinsville MA; his nieces: Marlene Dempsey and her husband Lee of Bend OR, Lorna Sullivan and her husband John of Mendon MA, Roseanne Feldt and her husband James of Providence RI and Joanna Moran and her husband Jim of Buzzards Bay MA; two additional nieces; three nephews, four grand nephews; eight grand nieces; five great grand nephews and four great grand nieces.
David was the brother of the late James F. Maffia and the late Vivian (Maffia) Mussulli.
His funeral will be held Friday (May 29th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Friday (May 29th) from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Mass.
