Mr. David A. “Bear” Mathews, 68, of Milford MA, died unexpectedly on Friday (July 2, 2021) at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Suzette A. (Eisenburg) Mathews.
David was born in Framingham MA, the son of the late Wallace F. and the late Cecile E. (Poirier) Mathews. He attended Hopedale public schools, graduating from Hopedale High School, Class of 1971. He had been a resident of Milford MA for over 25 years.
David was a US Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War, serving as a medical corpsman.
Following his military service David was involved with numerous types of employment over the years.
David was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Milford and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Worcester Deputy Sherrif’s Department.
Along with his beloved wife of 21 years, he is survived by his 3 siblings: William F. Mathews and his wife Janet of Holliston MA, Jane A., wife of Richard Greenwood of Bridgeport CT and Beautiful Jean, wife of Gregory Smith of Natick MA; also his nieces & nephews: Christine Mathews and her son Jeffrey, Fred Mathews, Steve Smith and his wife Lexi, Matthew K. Apgar and his wife Vita and Daniel Smith.
David was the uncle of the late Francis Apgar.
In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (July 17th) at 12 NOON in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale MA. There are no visiting hours.
