Dick Edward Wilt, 87, passed away suddenly at his residence in Mendon.
Dick was born in Greenville, PA, the only child of Randall and Belle Evans Wilt. He graduated from Penn High School in Greenville in 1953 and attended Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA. He graduated from Thiel College in Greenville, PA in 1957.
He taught junior high school history and coached football for one year and then moved into the casualty insurance industry. Dick was an underwriting manager and executive for several companies over the next 40 years. Last working for Travelers in Boston.
Dick was an excellent athlete and quarterbacked Penn High to an undefeated season in 1951. He also played both football and baseball in high school and college. After his playing days, he was a football referee for 40 years working games in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Maryland. He loved animals and had severaldachshunds and bassets over the years. He loved the ocean, New England seafood, all sports, and a good joke.
Dick is survived by his sons, Dale (Carolyn) Wilt, Reading, PA and Dean (Carol) Wilt, Durham, NC. Grandchildren, Meghan Wilt, Baton Rouge, LA, Mitchell Wilt, Charlotte, NC, Taylor Wilt, Durham, NC and Erin Wilt, Chelsea, MA.
He loved spending time with his late wife, Dianne’s children, Eric (Lara) Peterson, Mendon MA and Lynn (Joe) Biggs, Marlboro MA and her grandchildren, Hunter (Julianne) Peterson, New London, CT, Cole Peterson, Los Angeles, CA and Lindsey Biggs, Marlboro.
Dick will be interned at Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington, PA and a memorial service will be held at a date to be determined later.
