Mr. Domingos A. Machado, 86, of Milford MA died Monday (December 9, 2024) at the Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Maria A. “Alice” (Tabosa) Machado.
Domingos was born in Montalegre Portugal, the son of the late José Augusto Machado and the late Maria Das Dores (Afonso) Machado. He attended school in Portugal as a young boy, graduating from high school.
Domingos was first employed as a young man in Portugal when he took over running the family barber shop due to the untimely death of his father at a young age. Upon emigrating to the United States & the Milford area he was first employed at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale MA. He then worked as a butcher at the Stop & Shop grocery store located in Marlborough MA, and later owned & operated his own butcher shop located on East Main Street in Milford.
With the closing of his butcher shop he became employed at the former Foster Forbes factory located in Milford, from which he retired. After his retirement from Foster Forbes he became employed at JNJ Industries in Franklin MA, where he worked until he was 82 years old.
Domingos was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford MA and also a longtime member of the Milford Portuguese Club.
Domingos was an avid soccer fan, starting from his days as a young man in Portugal when he played soccer for 18 years in Montalegre. He remained an ardent supporter & fan of the FC Portugal soccer team. He was also an avid hunter & fisherman in both Portugal & here in Milford.
Along with his beloved wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughter: Carla M. Robertson and her husband Jonathan Robertson of Milford MA; his grandchildren: Noah Robertson & Luke Robertson of Milford MA; his siblings: Paulo Machado and his wife Julia of Portugal, Maria Pinto and her late husband Abel Pinto of California, Manuel Machado and his wife Natalia Machado of Framingham MA, Fernanda Fontes and her husband Domingos Fontes of Milford MA & Norberto Machado and his wife Fatima Machado of California; also many nieces & nephews.
Domingos was the brother of the late Jose Machado and his late wife Conceicáo Machado.
His funeral will be held Monday (December 16th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church (LOWER CHURCH), 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Vernon Grove Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Monday (December 16th) from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Mass.
