Dr. Thomas A. Spina, 89, of Millbury MA and formerly of Mendon MA died Sunday (September 11, 2022) at Care One at Millbury in Millbury MA after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Liz” D’Alesio.
Dr. Spina was born in Brooklyn NY, the son of the late Gaetano Spina and the late Teresa Spina. He attended public schools in New York City and was a graduate of Flower University School of Medicine, also located in New York.
Dr. Spina established Spina Obstetrics here in Milford MA in 1965, retiring in 2018. He had served as Chief of the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department at Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital since 1995. Dr. Spina was a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and also certified in the reading of Bone Densitometry.
Dr. Spina liked gardening and making his own wine, called “Four Fathers”, with his close friends. He was also an avid football fan, especially of the New England Patriots.
Along with his beloved wife of 34 years, he is survived by his 3 daughters: Jeanine Spina of Gloucester MA, Monique Spina and her husband Mitchell Massey of Kennebunk ME and Gaetana D’Alesio-Spina and her husband Matthew Rosen of North Andover MA; his 3 granddaughters: Alessia Brugnara, Camille Brugnara and Olivia Massey; also many nieces & nephews.
Dr. Spina was the brother of the late Atty. Ralph Spina; the late Dr. Christopher Spina; the late Atty. Robert Spina and the late Theresa Spina.
In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. A Private Funeral will be held from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA on Saturday (September 17th). Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (September 17th) at 11am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main Street, Milford MA . There are no visiting hours.
