Mr. Ernest V. Longchamps, 88, of Oxford MA and formerly of Milford MA, died Saturday (May 15, 2021) at his son’s residence in Oxford MA after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen V. (Sheldon) Longchamps, who died in 2018.
Ernest was born in Fall River MA, the son of the late Albert O. and the late Alice (Patterson) Longchamps. He attended Notre Dame Elementary School & Prevost High School in Fall River MA. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict having served as a naval airman from 1952 to 1956.
Ernest had been employed as a lineman for the Massachusetts Electric Company for 33 years, retiring in 1994. He was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford MA and had been a member of the church choir from 1983 to 1996. He also had volunteered for the Cubscout Pack #34 from 1961 to 1964.
Ernest is survived by his 3 sons: Richard A. Longchamps and his wife Dianne of Wellfleet MA, David P. Longchamps and his wife Laurie of Lewisburg TN and Michael J. Longchamps and his wife Deborah of Oxford MA; 5 grandchildren: Cory Longchamps and his wife Julie Douglas MA, Danny Longchamps of Nashville TN, Ryan Longchamps and his companion Nellie Trejo of State College PA, Trevor Longchamps of New York City NY and Erika, wife of Patrick O’Malley of Worcester MA; 3 great grandchildren: Camden Longchamps, Brayden Longchamps, and Gavin Longchamps; and several nieces & nephews.
Ernest was the brother of the late Jeanne Langlais of Somerset MA; the late Leo Longchamps of Fall River MA; the late Arthur Longchamps of Swansea MA and the late Armand Longchamps of Tacoma Washington.
His funeral will be held Tuesday (May 18th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Tuesday morning (May 18th) from 8:30am to 9:30am, prior to his Funeral Mass. Social distancing protocols and use of face masks will be required for all facets of the funeral services.
