Florence Alice Wright, 86, of Auburn died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 after a long life dedicated to her faith and the service of others. Florence was born and raised in Milford, the daughter of the late Carmella Grace (Consoletti) Wright and the late Herbert E. Wright Sr. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and went on to join the Sisters of St. Joseph in Chicopee in 1954 where she was a member of the Congregation. In 1962, as Sr. Thersa Marie, she made her Perpetual Vows and was with the Sisters of St. Joseph until 1987.
Florence had a love of learning, as well as of teaching. She received a degree from Elms College in Chicopee in 1959 and went on to obtain her Masters Degree in 1972 from Assumption College in Worcester. While earning her degrees, she taught in Parochial schools in the Worcester area, where she lived for most of the last two decades, until her recent move to Life Care of Auburn in August of 2021.
Florence became fluent in Spanish and made several trips to Spain, a country she loved. She worked there on occasions, teaching English. She went on to become a Social Worker and Mental Health Counselor in multiple locations until retiring from the final position at the Worcester County Prison in 2002. She was also an investor and landlord for several multifamily properties in Worcester.
She is survived by her brother, George Wright and his wife Susan of Harwich Port MA & Palm Beach Gardens FL; and several nieces and nephews: Cheryl Eidinger-Taylor and her husband Bruce of Uxbridge MA, Justine (Tina) Wildfeuer and her husband Steven of Northbridge MA and Jennifer Wright of Milford MA, Michelle Wiggetman of Fairfield CT and Peter Wright of Fairfield CT.
She was the sister of the late Sr. Mary Lou Wright of Chicopee MA and the late Herbert E. Wright, Jr. of Milford MA. Florence's kind heart and sense of humor will be missed.
Her funeral will be held Thursday (March 23rd) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Thursday (March 23rd) from 10:30am to 11:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA.
