Harold L. Getz Jr.

Mr. Harold L. Getz Jr., 84, of Milford MA died Sunday (April 25, 2021) at the UMASS-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester MA after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan H. (Sayer) Getz.

Harold was born in Albany NY, the son of the late Harold L. and the late Bessie (Sickles) Getz. He was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School in Albany NY and also attended Albany Business College.

Harold had been employed for several years as a bookkeeper for the Sun Oil Company located in Rensselaer NY and in Framingham MA. He later owned & operated the School Street Market located in Milford MA. Following that he was employed at the Winter Haven Shelter located in Milford MA and at Mark’s Transportation Company located in Milford MA.

Harold had been a resident of Milford MA for the past 44 years, and prior to that had resided in East Greenbush NY for 20 years and Albany NY for 25 years prior to that.

Harold had served as a volunteer firefighter at the Miller Hose Company in East Greenbush NY as a younger man. He was also a past member of the Elks Club in East Greenbush NY. As a resident of Milford MA he was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, where he served as a sexton and Eucharistic minister.

Along with his beloved wife of 63 years, he is survived by his son: Stephen Getz and his wife Caroline of Millville MA; his daughter: Susan Getz of Westborough MA; his 5 grandchildren: Mary Ellen Marini and her husband Matt of Oxford MA, Stephen Getz Jr. of Millville MA, Jacob Getz of Millville MA, Abby Getz of Utah and Ethan Getz of Utah; 1 great grandson: Anthony Marini; 2 siblings: Edith Stevens of Nassau NY and Richard Getz of Oviedo FL; and several nieces & nephews.

Harold was the father of the late William Getz.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place. His funeral will be held on Saturday (May 8th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 19 Winter Street, Milford MA. Burial of his cremains will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Saturday (May 8th) from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Mass. Social distancing protocols & the use of face masks will be required for all facets of the funeral services.
