Mr. James D. Griffith, 81, of Milford MA died Thursday (December 14, 2023) at the UMASS-Memorial Medical Center in Worcester MA after an illness. He was the beloved husband of Janice S. (Savoie) Griffith.
James was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Lester Griffith and the late Sadie (Dillon) Griffith. He attended Milford public schools, graduating from Milford High School, Class of 1961. He then received his associates degree in accounting from Burdette College.
James was first employed as a young man at the former Honeywell Corporation located in Lowell MA, where he worked as a freight auditor. He then was employed for many years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, working at the Massachusetts Highway Department, from which he retired.
James was a proud member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, serving in Company B;181st Infantry Division located in Milford MA.
James was a longtime member of the Milford Planning Board and had the distinction of being the longest serving elected official in the Town of Milford, based on his 37 years serving on the Milford Planning Board. He was also a former member of the K of C Valencia Council #80.
James loved to travel with his beloved wife,Janice and was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox and the NE Patriots.
Along with his beloved wife of 32 years, he is survived by his step-daughter: Elise Blakemore and her husband DJ Blakemore of Denver CO; his 3 step-granddaughters: Arden Blakemore, Ava Blakemore & Amelia Blakemore of Denver CO; his brother: Thomas F. Griffith and his wife Mary of Millbury MA; his nieces & nephews: Catherine M. McCoy of Milford MA, Adam S. Griffith of San Clemente CA, Mark D. Griffith of Corona Delmar CA and Darlene Cassiani of Plymouth MA; also his best friend: Harry Peters of Upton MA.
James was the brother of the late Joseph Griffith & the late Richard Griffith; and the uncle of the late Patrick M. Griffith.
His funeral will be held Monday (December 18th) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale Street, Hopedale MA. Burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held Monday morning (December 18th) from 9:30am to 10:30am, prior to his Funeral Mass.
