Mr. James F. McGrath, 89, of Milford MA died early Wednesday morning (April 13, 2022) at the Blaire House of Milford after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine (Scioli) McGrath who died in 2009.
James was born in Worcester MA, the son of the late John McGrath and the late Irene (Casey) McGrath. He attended the former Commerce High School in Worcester MA.
James was first employed as a young man at the former Porter Shoe Company located in Milford MA. Following that he started his successful career in the construction industry first working for the Charles Kean Building Company. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #107 located in Worcester MA for 15 years and then worked for 30 years at Cutler Associates located in Worcester MA, retiring in 1997 as a superintendant .
James was a US Army-Airborne veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and a longtime member of the Italian-American Veterans Post of Milford and the American Legion John W. Powers Post of Milford. He was also a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford MA.
James loved spending time at his summer cottage on Cape Cod located in Dennis MA. He also was an avid golfer and loved to play bocce ball.
James is survived by his daughter: Kerry Ann McGrath and her companion Thomas King of Milford MA; his 2 grandchildren: Stephanie Leigh Derby and her husband Jacob Derby of Marlborough MA and Nicholas Ryan Kane and his wife Kelsey of Utica NY; his great granddaughter: Lennon Derby; his sister: Irene Allain of Oxford MA; his brother-in-law: Alfred Scioli and his wife Denise of Milford MA; also several nieces & nephews.
James was the father of the late James W. McGrath who died in 2012.
His funeral will be held SATURDAY (April 23rd) from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. A visiting hour will be held SATURDAY (April 23rd) from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, prior to his Funeral Mass.
