Mr. James E. Miller Sr., 69, of Milford MA died unexpectedly on Tuesday (May 30, 2023) at his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary M. (Mills) Miller, who died in 2007.
Jim was born in Muskegon Michigan, the son of the late Lloyd Miller and the son of Dorothy P. (Hansen) Miller of South Dennis MA. He was a graduate of Hopkinton High School and attained his associate’s degree from Wentworth University.
Jim was first employed as a young man at Pall Corporation located in Westborough MA and later at Waters Corporation located in Milford MA. He went on to cofound his own
technology company named Sigmil Ltd., located in Milford MA. He later created Miller Technical Products, a videography company, located in Milford MA. Following that he was employed in the Milford School System, working at Milford High School until his retirement in 2013.
Jim had a deep penchant for his community and for history. He was a member of the Massachusetts 25th Volunteer Civil War Re-enactment Company; a member of the Sons of Union Veterans; a member of the Milford Memorial Hall Historical Committee and an appointed member of the Milford Historical Commission.
Jim was also the “Volunteer of the Year” on four different occasions for Milford Cablevision, the local cable television station. He was a longtime volunteer baseball coach for the Milford Little League. He was also the chosen videographer for the Milford High School sports teams and numerous other Milford community events & organizations, such as drama clubs, dance troupes & music groups.
Jim also had a fascination with anything related to Disney World and astronomy, and he had a keen interest in trains. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed riding his bicycle, especially near Louisa Lake.
Along with his mother, Dorothy P. (Hansen) Miller, of South Dennis MA he is survived by his two sons: James E. Miller Jr. and his wife Laurie of Worcester MA & Robert H. Miller and his wife Elizabeth of Milford MA; his two grandsons: August Fares Miller & Wesley James Miller of Worcester MA; longtime friend Jeanette Thomas of North Attleboro, MA and several nieces & nephews.
Jim was the brother of the late June Spencer of Tioga TX.
In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. A Private Committal Service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be held Monday (June 5th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
