Jennie Kaizzi Obituary

Jennie H. Kaizzi of Milford and formerly of Boston, MA passed away on January 11, 2020 at Cornerstone at Milford in Milford, MA.

 

Miss Kaizzi graduated from Milford High School and the Somerville Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She served as an Air Force Cadet Nurse at Somerville Hospital during World War II.  After the war, she served in the Air Force in France and Germany, and later in the Air Force Reserve retiring as a Major. 

 

Upon her return from Europe, Miss Kaizzi settled in Boston and began a nursing career at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, followed by many years at Massachusetts General Hospital on the neurological service and as a Head Nurse before retiring as an Admitting Officer.

 

Miss Kaizzi was a patron of the arts and an active volunteer in several civic organizations in Boston and on Beacon Hill where she lived.  She particularly loved opera and the theatre.  She was a volunteer for many years at the Boston Lyric Opera.  She served on the Boston Public Library Board of Volunteers in event management and was particularly proud of her more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service in The Eye Opener program at Boston’s Museum of Science.  She also enjoyed traveling in the United States, Europe and China.

 

Miss Kaizzi is survived by her sister Dorothy Kaizzi McGrath and her two nieces Judith McGrath Palmer of Quincy, MA and Kathleen McGrath Glew and her husband Charles of Charlestown, RI.  She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.

 

Her funeral will be held Friday (January 17th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial, with Military Honors, will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be Thursday (January 16th) from 6pm to 8pm. 

 

Memorial donations made be made in Miss Kaizzi’s honor to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Animal Rescue League of Boston or the Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
