John Philip Byrnes

Mr. John P. Byrnes, 73, of Worcester MA and formerly of Milford MA and Blackstone MA died Sunday (May 7, 2023) at UMASS-Memorial Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in a fall.

John was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Joseph F. Byrnes and the late Winifred H. (Gagnon) Byrnes. He attended the former St. Mary’s parochial schools in Milford MA and Mount St. Charles in Woonsocket RI. He later attended the Franciscan House of Studies, Newman Prep, Providence College & Hellenic College.

John had resided in Milford MA for most of his life, but had recently moved to Worcester MA and prior to that had resided in Blackstone MA. While residing in Milford, he was active in the community as a longtime town meeting member; serving as Chairman of the former Milford Commuter Rail Commission; and as a member of the Milford Board of Library Trustees.

John had been employed at the former Jordan Marsh Store in Framingham MA; at the Milford Regional Medical Center; at various local supermarkets and also as a substitute school teacher.

John is survived by his brother: Atty. Joseph F. Byrnes Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Milford MA; his nephew: Patrick Byrnes and his wife Shannon of Foxboro MA; his grandnephew: Finley Byrnes of Foxboro MA and several cousins & friends.

John was the brother of the late Nancy Byrnes, who died in 1997.

Funeral Services will be held Monday (May 15th) ay 10am at the St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street, Worcester MA, preceded by a visiting hour from 9am to 10am. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Sunday (May 14th) from 4pm to 6pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA.
