Mr. Joseph F. Arcudi, 86, of Milford MA passed away peacefully on Sunday evening (October 1, 2023) at the Milford Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Caccavelli) Arcudi.
Joseph was born in Milford MA, the son of the late Arthur T. Arcudi and the late Florence (DiCecco) Arcudi. He attended the former Sacred Heart Grammar School and was a graduate of Milford High School, Class of 1955. He initially attended the former Dean Junior College located in Franklin MA, and then went on to attain his bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond in Richmond VA.
Joseph furthered his education by receiving a Master’s Degree in Education from Framingham State College and then a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education & Administration from Boston University.
Joseph began his long & successful career in education working as a teacher in the Franklin MA public school system from 1962 to 1963. He then was employed at Walpole High School from 1963 to 1967, working as a teacher and also as a football coach & baseball coach. He also served as a football coach & baseball coach at Franklin High School during that time frame.
Joseph then went on to serve as the Assistant Principal at Millis High School from 1967 to 1982. From 1982 to 1983 he went on to work as a counselor at Milford High School.
After a successful & rewarding career in education, Joseph became elected as Town Clerk for the Town of Milford, a position he successfully held from 1984 until his retirement in 2005. Joseph had also served as a Justice of the Peace and as a constable for the Town of Milford. Joseph was also a proud member of having served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
Joseph was a lifelong resident of Milford MA and a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford MA. Community involvement was always important to Joseph and he exemplified that by serving as a volunteer coach for the Milford Pop Warner Football League and volunteer coach for the Milford Youth Baseball League.
Joseph was also a past-member of the Milford Lions Club and also a longtime member of the Hoboken Citizens Club. He was also member of the John W. Powers Post #59 American Legion Baseball Team advisory board, a position he enjoyed having been a member, as a young adult, of the 1953 John W. Powers Post #59 American Legion championship baseball team.
Joseph was also a longtime member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association; the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association; the Massachusetts Principals Association and the Massachusetts Town Clerks Association.
Along with his beloved wife of 60 years, he is survived by his son: Joseph P. Arcudi and his wife Wendy Bliss of Milford MA; his 3 grandchildren: Joseph F. Arcudi, Giovanna Arcudi and Anthony Arcudi of Milford MA; his sister: Joyce Petrilli of Florida; his uncle: Joseph E. Arcudi of Milford MA; his aunt: Carmella Fernandes of Milford MA; also many loving nieces, nephews & cousins.
His funeral will be held Friday (October 6th) at 9am from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress Street, Milford MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (UPPER CHURCH), 7 East Main Street, Milford MA. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford MA. Visiting hours will be held Thursday (October 5th) from 5pm to 7pm at the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home.
